I read a verse the other day that really made me stop and think about the purpose of my family. The verse is in Isaiah, stuck in the middle of instructions on how to live a godly life in the middle of an ungodly society. It says, "Behold, I and the children whom the LORD has given me are for signs and wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion." (Isaiah 8:18 NASB)
After reading the verse, the question came to me, "What is the purpose of my family?"
Do we ever really stop to think about such things? I don't know that I do - at least not enough. But, I know that this verse stirred in me a desire to make the purpose of our family be specific - to be His. Many things in the daily processes of our family do not point to that being our purpose, but we are growing. We are learning. And we are blessed to see many God-focused attitudes and behaviors flowing naturally from our children.
What is your family's purpose? Will you join our family as we strive to make our purpose to be the service of our amazing Lord? It won't be a smooth or easy journey, but I know it's worth it. And I'm looking forward to growing in it more and more.
