A few weeks ago I started going through the chronological Bible with a few ladies via conference call (and totally forgot to join the conference call last night! Oops!). We are using the notes and questions of my former pastor’s wife Iva May. I love her insight – she has quite the way of pointing out the obvious and making it click. This week we are finishing the book of Genesis.
This morning Mrs. Iva pointed to the fact that circumstances were lying to Jacob. Do you see it? Do you see all of the things that Jacob believed based on circumstances? Do you see how wrong his conclusions were? Yet, when I stop and think about it, I can’t really blame him. I would have thought the same thing. I would have believed those circumstances.
But circumstances are liars!!
Circumstances fall in the realm of the possible. God works in the realm of the impossible. Circumstances are trapped by the boundaries of the seen. God works in the unseen. Circumstances are limited to earthly control. God is in control of this world.
Daily – even in this very moment – I am caught up in the lies of circumstances because that is what I can see. Just like Jacob, I believe them. I make my decisions based on them. And just like Jacob, I am wrong!
I am challenged to break free from the hold of circumstances and trust in the vision of my God. He is not limited by circumstances – He uses them. May I surrender to His hand, not to the things I see.
