Challenge: Faithful

To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father.  Col 1:2 NASB

I have been involved in numerous churches in my lifetime.  As I think of each one, I almost always think of at least one person – and usually more – who was a solid and beautiful picture of faithfulness.  As Paul opens this letter, I can almost see him sitting there remembering specific faces and names as he dictates “faithful brethren” to his scribe.

I wonder if I would have been one of the faces Paul envisioned had I been a part of the church in Colossae.  My challenge today is a simple one to state but is far from simple in its application.  I am challenged to be counted among the faithful.  Not counted among those who simply do much in activity for the church, although that is a part of it.  Not simply one who shows up every time the doors are open, although that can contribute.  Not someone who is always teaching, although that would be a part of faithfulness to use my gifts.  Not any one of those things or innumerable others that show success as an organizational member.  No, instead to make an impact on individual lives who need an example of the Lord in their lives.  To live my life in my Savior’s footsteps.

May I be counted among the “faithful brethren.”
