I finished Leviticus today. As I read Leviticus 26, I couldn’t help but see God’s faithfulness. Every promise He made in the chapter was fulfilled. Unfortunately, it was the curses that were fulfilled, not the blessings. Why? Because the Israelites totally ignored the warnings God gave them. The sad consequence was that the Israelites did not see the fulfillment of the beautiful blessings promised in Lev 26. Instead they saw the curses.
The crushing reality for me this morning was the realization of my tendency to live like the Israelites. I claim to be His child. I verbally declare that I’m walking His path. Then I expect His blessings. But, I frequently ignore the details of what surrounds those blessings.
There is obedience necessary. True, our guidelines for obedience are a bit different from those of the Old Testament law because we have the redemption of Christ. But, instead of dealing with the minute details of the law, we have things like, “Be anxious for nothing…”
God is faithful. He is either faithful to bring me overwhelming peace and blessing or necessary discipline, depending on my actions. So often the discipline is necessary. How I am challenged to live a life that sees the faithfulness of His peace instead!
