Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. Col 3:23-24 NASB
How easily I forget this truth. And, even when I think I am living it, I so often am instead working to buck against my natural tendency to people-please. When I buck against pleasing people, I often cynically miss the times when I am supposed to warm the heart of others.
When I work for the Lord, on the other hand, my focus is not on the desires of people. But, I am not neglecting their hearts and their needs because I am allowing the Lord to work through me.
In a way, it’s discouraging that the Holy Spirit has to be continually nudging me in this area. With the number of times that He has reminded me to do all things for the glory of God (1 Cor 10:31), you’d think I would have had this down by now. But, I’m still learning, growing, and being reminded of so much I’ve already been told. I am phenomenally thankful for a patient and forgiving God!
So today I will start anew in this challenge, seeking in all I do to work for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, honoring Him in all I do, and allowing Him to work through me to satisfy the needs of others.
