Challenge: His Word Before Us

Hear, O Israel!  The Lord is our God, the Lord is one!  You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.  These words , which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.  Dt. 6:4-8  NASB

My home is full of reminders.  Pictures to remind us of our love for one another.  Memorabilia to remind of of special times in our past – my life in Jordan, Doug’s time as a Boy Scout and his rise to the rank of Eagle Scout, our college graduation, our enjoyment of the Razorbacks.  There are computers readily available.  There are books everywhere.

But how many things in the very fabric of our home and lives reminds us of the Word of God?  Right now we have nativities up everywhere.  We have a couple of things with Bible verses on them.  But, as I look around I realize that the Word of God is definitely not the primary visual in our home.  We do talk about it a great deal and bring it into our discipline.  And we are learning more and more to bring it into the every day fabric of our lives.  But there is much room to grow.

I hunger for the Word to be more central to our lives.  I want it to be the foundation of our conversation and the establishment of our homes.  We’re growing in that, but I am challenged to grow more.  I want His Word to be on the hearts of ever member of my family for all their days.
