Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska

I have been a fan of Tricia Goyer and her captivating historical fiction for several years now. A few months ago, I was introduced to her partnership with Ocieanna Fleiss with the book Love Finds You in Victory Heights, Washington. Today marks the release of the newest addition to the Goyer/Fleiss partnership, Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska. This new novel fits into the Love Finds You series of novels by various authors. If the effort presented by Tricia and Ocieanna offers a true representation of the series, it is definitely one worth exploration.

Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska combines contemporary and historical fiction into one story. The primary force of the plot focuses on Ginny Marshall, an up and coming singer on the verge of signing her first big recording contract. Questions plague her, however, leading her to delay signing, heading instead to the remote town of Glacier Bay, Alaska, to seek out the advice of her former fiance. When Ginny reaches Glacier Bay, she discovers a box letters from the past unfolding a story rich with culture, history, heartbreak, forgiveness, and love.

I love the blending of the contemporary and historical through the letters Ginny reads. Even so, in our quick, share everything in an instant kind of world, the story-telling letters seem rather odd. As I look at my own life, however, and contemplate how different it would be did I not have access to blogging, Skype, telephone calls, and quick communication, I might write letters in the same way.

The romance of this story was expected, even a bit predictable. For those who simply see the novel for its romance, there will be few surprises even though the road to the conclusion takes a few unexpected turns. In reality, however, the romance simply stands as a frame for the true richness of this novel. Tricia and Ocieanna desire to do more than simply write a good love story. They desire to share a story that will draw hearts to the lavish love of God. They have succeeded with Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska.

As I finish the book and place it on the shelf for future rereads and sharing, I cannot help but wish I could make a trip of my own to Glacier Bay, Alaska. I'm thankful to these talented authors for sharing such a beautiful place with the rest of us!
