The Wrong Passage

(Written Jan 2007) This one was short, and I always intended to go back and fill it in. But, sometimes it's better to just keep it short and sweet rather than try to bog it down with more words! So, here it is - short and to the point...

I read the wrong passage in preparation for my devotional reading today (1-3-07). Isn’t it funny how the “wrong” passage can be so right? The verse for tomorrow was John 4:50, which reads, “Jesus replied, ‘You may go. Your son will live.’ The man took Jesus at His word and departed.” The story is that of a royal official whose son was sick to the point of death. The man heard Jesus was in town and went to beg Him to come heal his son. Jesus instead informed the official that his son would be healed.
We very frequently seek the Lord for what we need, whether it be healing or provision or whatever. But, how often do we take Him at His word? How often do we depart, confident that He will work? This man trusted. What he didn’t know was that Jesus had, in fact, healed his son at that very moment. Even not knowing that, though, he left Jesus. He trusted. Will we trust? Will we have such confidence in our Lord?
